Quartz technology eh? Well what an advancement on the old cast iron burners…. Infra Red Grilling is probably the best sort of grilling you can do on a BBQ. Remember the charcoal Barbeques, Hibachi and the like, well using an RQT burner produces the same infra red as charcoal does (that lovely red glow)

Direct Infra-Red heat and convected heat is what this Barbeque has...

Before I get into the assembly and quality of the BBQ let me just say that it uses less Gas, has better quicker heat, can be kept a lot cleaner and is easier to clean. Enough! let’s get back to the BBQ.

The Turbo Elite RQT that I am reviewing has already had a ‘guest’ review, this is mine……………………………………………………

It comes in a Classic version or Elite, the Elite comes with 4 RQT burners all SS grills and a Enamel Cast Iron Plate. Which to be honest I haven’t used yet as I am thinking that this is a ‘grill’ BBQ and not really a ‘plate’ one, hence the 4 RQT burners with NO flame tamers. Plate is easy to fit and I did check to see what the heat on it was and it was fine, well up to speed!

Packed in four boxes that I did manage to fit in my 4WD car it was actually quite easy to assemble if there are two of you. The BBQ (top) part can be a struggle to put on the trolley on your own. With two of us, chatting and ‘wowing’ it took a very comfortable 2 hours but that was with drinks, phone calls and breaks in between.

It is stylish and very well built. That I know reflects in the price but I have been in industry for a long time and I reckon apart from one or two over the years this has got to be one of the best. It is sturdy, heavy, well appointed and beautifully styled. Buying this BBQ, you will not need another one for years!

The burners are sturdy but I would suggest that if you are moving it anywhere far to remove all the burners (which are easy to do with a clip at the back) otherwise you will be up for a big bill to replace them at the other end if they break.

The hood is double skinned and has a flush temperature gauge; the side shelf has a drawer and the other side a sunken side burner. I still have no idea as to why manufacturers don’t offer a wok burner as an optional extra. I prefer a wok burner to a single burner.

The cupboard doors fitted flush with just a little adjustment, bit like kitchen cabinet doors. Sturdy castors as well.

No cover was included but I reckon for this price a cover should have been. How about it Barbeques Galore?

Fitting the hose and reg and side burner hose is a bit fiddly but managed ok. Just make sure all the connections are ‘spanner-tight’ and use soapy water on them to make sure there are no leaks.

Although I have only cooked a few times on this BBQ I found that it was an absolute pleasure, even cleaning up! Splash some water over the domes or take them off if you are really fussy and pop them in the wash bowl with a little detergent, easy to remove, easy to put back.

Just turn the RQT burners on and instantly you can cook, steaks, sausages, veggies, chops, butterflied chicken (which I did). Remember to put the food over the Quartz dome to get that succulent infra red grilling, but watch it as on full blast it does not take long to cook. I had mine on low and the chicken was done in under an hour, no flare ups.

Just a point here, you do not need to oil the grills at all as the oiled food is enough and if you do oil the grills they will discolour before you put the food on them (I made this error)
Roasts will be great on this BBQ and a couple of other things to mention……….

Yes, it is approved to run on Natural Gas.
No, it is only approved to be used OUTDOORS, not in an enclosed Alfresco area.

Well what can I say?

Great to assemble..
Great looks..
Great to cook on..

Price? Well in my opinion, you only get what you pay for and this is definitely worth the dollars, so save up!

An impressive and well manufactured Barbeque, Well Done Barbeques Galore!

Hi Gerard, the best way to clean a SS plate is 50/50 vinegar and water when quite warm, you will never get it looking like new but this will get off most of the fat / residue. You can also use BBQ Sparkle available from Barbeques Galores stores.

With regard to your steak you need to get the temp of the plate up. So that when you put a tablespoon of water on it it 'beads'. Dont forget SS wont get as hot as cast but is a lot cleaner. You also need to leave the burners on below for at least 10/15 mins before cooking, that also goes for the grill side. When you put your your steak on it after about 30 secs ease a spatula under it and it shouldn't stick again. Let me know how you get on. Ross Y

I recently purchased the turbo RTQ I have 2 questions

1. What is the best way and product to clean stainless steel plate??

2. I have trouble where steak does not come off plate very hot it is cooked but taking a long time, I have also cooked them on adjacent info red burner which has perspex cover over burner what am I doing wrong??

Hi Justin, I normally cook sausages with a spray of canola oil, on the rear cooking rack (warming rack as they sometimes call it) on the left hand side with the hood down and only the far RHS burner on low, that way you use less fat and they come out crispy, steaks I cook with the hood up that way you can keep your eye on them, the hood just makes them cook a little quicker....hope this helps,

Have read comments re the BBQ's Galore turbo rqt and I'm definetly not impressed with the RQT burners they don't get hot enough to cook meat properly wow!, a really expensive BBQ that doesn't get hot enough to cook meat properly thanks a lot BBQ galore what a waste of a couple of grand. I had a 1980's BBQ galore turbo with the lava rock tray and now wish I still had it, it cooked and tasted so much better.
I would definetly not buy another one this RQT technology is a gimmick in my opinion. Very disappointed .

Hi Maurice, sorry you feel that way, the RQT infr red burners do take time getting used to as you really have to heat them up well before use. However if you do like the old style burners you can still use them in place of the RQT's, good BBQing!

Hi, we have a turbo elite 2 burner.
When cooking steaks, sausages etc, should the hood be open or closed for best results, I feel if he hood is closed the steak won't have that crispy bbq texture?

Hi Sam, A very good question! I have no idea why the manufacturers include this bit as most of them now do and there as you say are no details on what its for.............
.....its really a bit of a gimmick, its actually for attaching to the BBQ putting a match on the 'spring' end and lighting the BBQ burners manually!!

Hi, I've just finished assembling the BBQ and so far so good, but I was wondering, there is a small chain attached to a metal stick with a curl at the end in the instruction manual. Do you know what it's for/where it goes? I can't find anything in the instructions. I hope it's not important! Thanks

I have this BBQ and I love it. It's well worth the money. It has quality all over it. If you reall want a good clean once in a while use oven cleaner on your grill. I only use the cold water on the domes if I was to lazy to clean it. 10/10 for me. Looking for a good smoking attachment for it

Hi Matt, Glad we could help, I clean my domes in the washing up bowl as I find it messy splashing water over them! Yes be careful of the ceramic places if you break or chip them they are expensive to replace as are the domes, that is why I take the domes out and clean them separately after each BBQ, I also clean underneath, only takes a couple of minutes. There again we use ours for demos so has to be clean...Ross Y

Thanks for your insights! We purchased ours today, whipped up some burger patties and gave it a crack! Found your review very helpful an influential on our decision.
One question, when they say to pour cold water on the domes to clean them, do you have to be especially careful to not let any water get in the infrared burner grill component?

Have had the Grand Turbo for 2 months.
Big dollars, was expecting big results.
So far the heavily advertised flame throwers don't light up very well, 2 service calls & still not the best.
Have used it about 7 times & 4 domes have cracked/chipped already... I was told & thought these were pretty much billet proof.
Being fussy here but can't see how to clean the inside of the hood when it's open as it's concealed oversight I'd say.
So far not impressed.... any feedback on these issues or this model?

Hi JT, sorry but not had much feedback from the NEW Grand Turbo, but yes the domes can chip and break as although they are quartz domes they are still glass. The inside of the hood you will never keep clean I usually don't bother to clean the insides of my roasting hoods as they will get dirty the next time it is used!

The flame thrower ignitions should work every time, either they haven't been adjusted right or they are blocked, call the store again and get the service agent out again. I presume that you are using it on a bottle? i.e. LPG Gas?

No real other comments apart from the fact that they do take time to get used to, after that the comments from other users have been mostly positive so far.... but that has been on the 2 and 4 burner models..

we've converted to natural gas whether that makes a difference, the service agent is coming out again to look at the flame throwers, he's already apparently bored them out or adjusted them, but is coming back for another round, we'll see how he goes.

Hi JT, yes it can make a difference on Natural Gas depending how it was converted and the pressure, he should have also used a Natural Gas kit available from the store for your particular BBQ, I would be interested to know what he says as this is a new BBQ and I haven't seem one in situ yet or converted one...

sorry to hear that..mmm..need to know the BBQ was converted correctly and two if the pressure with all burners on including side burner if you have one is 1.0kpa, your plumber would be able to check this for you,

Just bought and had gassed in to the mains my 2 burner rqt turbo.
Porterhouse 20 minutes later on high, still no acceptable mallard browning happening.
I waited 10 minutes before throwing on meat, no impressed.

I have had a tubi rqt for a couple of years now. Can you let me know the best way to clean the burners? The glass domes are easy but I'm wondering about the burner pei e underneath wihich gets fat build up on it after time?

Hi Sarah, difficult this one...all you need to make sure is that the holes in the ceramics are clear, use a needle or something small, don't put under the tap!! then brush with a soft brush, that should do the trick!

My RQT's go out after about 90 sec, i'm on bottle gas, i rotate the sequence burner 1 to 4 one at a time and the all last no longer than 90 sec. i continued this through 4 cycles 1 burner at a time. the side burner has no issues and stays on for a long time, any help?

Hi Ross, a quick question in relation to my Grand Turbo I have just purchased, and had installed. I also bought it with a side burner. Now the issue is that the 3 left hand side burners do not run as high as the ones on the right. I would say they are at about half strength. I'm guessing its something to do with the gas being run through the side burner first before being run to the left side of the Grand Turbo. All items were converted to natural gas with conversion kits from BBQ's Galore, with the exception of the gas connection line which runs from the side burner to the left side of the Grand Turbo. The plumber obtained this due to the different sized connections required which didn't suit the lead that BBQ's galore had provided. Have you heard of this issue before? Thanks in advance. Have photos showing the difference if it would assist.

Hi Graham,

The ‘cloudy’ issue I have seen before and doesn’t normally affect the performance and yes you can just buy the glass. I think from memory it’s about $75 each one.

I haven’t had any problems with them wearing out or anything but if mishandled the ceramic can crack and don’t wash them with water at all!

Hi there,
I have had my Elite 2burner for a few years now. No complaints
....took a while getting used to it and now would never go back
to the dark ages !
My domes have become sort of "cloudy" from cleaning over time
and I was wondering if this limits the efficiency of the bbq?
If so can I purchase the glass - or do I have to buy
the full burner set?

Just one other query. Is there a way you would know when burners need
replacing ?
