Jumbuck Barbeques

11th Jul 2011

Now, if you buy a Jumbuck Barbeque from Bunnings and you want to convert it to Natural Gas from LPG make sure that you look at the Data / Compliance plate. This will tell you if it is approved to operate on both gases. If you are still not sure or want to check then email us at service@barbitec.com as we will know! We dont want you to spend all that money and be dissapointed! Ross Y

Hi Michael I am pretty certain this one is NOT approved for NG conversion, if it is made by Genesis the only ones that are approved for NG are the ones that have granite tops, Ross Y

Hi David, the Jumbuck brand, similar to the Matador brand is Bunning's own. In saying that there are all sorts of manufacturers that sell them into the stores. Some are approved fo conversion some arent, some they sell kits for some they dont. I need you to tell me who manufactured it and I can then tell you if it is approved for Natural Gas and whereyou can get the kit from. The 'generic' kit they sell may not be the right one. Come back to me when you know or email me at service@barbitec.com..hope this helps!

Cheers

Bunnings are marketing Bbq 2bnr hooded Jumbuck S/s W/condiment Tray
I/N: 3170456.
When equiring their stock records show stock at certain stores but on enquiring
the stock cannot be found, but we are assured that they will get it in for us, and I
do believe this will happen.
Our real query is the ability to convert to natural gas and to gain a straight forward
and understandable explanation of how to purchase the conversion kit and its
instalation
I look forward to your response,
Kind regards,

Hi Wiry, not sure on this one as Jumbuck is a Bunnings branded name by lots of manufacturers, have a look on the compliance plate and let me know who makes it. If there is PROPANE or LPG ONLY it is NOT approved for conversion, Ross Y

G day Ross.

I have purchased a JUMBUCK 4 burner hooded barbecue manufactured by Genesis. Is this product approved for conversion?

Cheers

Hi Jack, thank you for your question. The answer sadly is no, the only BBQ that is approved for NG conversion by Genesis is the one that comes with a granite top module and has an infra red (back burner) fitted. Sorry,

cheers

Hi Ross,

I know a mate uses his LP Jumbuck 4 burner with a NG gas conversion regulator and he changed his over nipples too but I don't think its approved, but it seems to be running ok. What sort of problems could this cause if its not approved for conversion and why?

cheers

Hi Isaac, I guess that its a bit like putting an electric kettle on a gas stove top! It will probably boil but not last and might be unsafe to do so...

Most LPG gas appliances are only approved for one gas or another as the pressures are different and they are designed for one gas only. If they are approved for Natural gas they go through a more stringent safety process. Consequences are that he would not be insured if something went wrong, he might blow himself up. He may get a fine if his mains gas supplier finds out. Tell him to buy a BBQ that IS approved for natural gas before he hurts himself or his family...Ross Y

Thanks for the info! I will be not going to his BBQs anymore now.. now I know he wouldn't want to spend thousands so can you suggest an economical natural gas approved BBQ maybe a 4 burner half grill / hot plate ?

Ross Y

October 09, 2014 04:16 am
Hi Isaac, we don't normally recommend a certain type of BBQ but I would suggest a store like Barbeques Galore or similar, they are manufacturers as well as retailers so they should be able to sell you a BBQ that was NG approved,

cheers

Hi, I have just purchased a Jumback Outdoor Pizza Oven from Bunnings. It will not stay lit, goes out as soon as we release the knob. Have tried holding knob in for a while but makes no difference. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

sounds like it will need to get back to Bunning's Rhonda, not something you will be able to fix yourself, it will be under warranty, give them a ring, Ross Y

This will be the shutoff. There is a little pilot light that needs to stay lit, look at the burner, you'll see the pilot, its either blocked or is too far from the burner.

Hi Eddie, not sure on this one, I think Not Approved for Natural Gas conversion, but that depends on the compliance plate. I need to know the manufacturer and what the plate says. If it has nothing about Natural Gas then it is not approved and cannot be converted...Ross Y

Hi, I have the Jumbuck 3 Burner Stainless Steel Hooded Barbeque With Side Burner Model Number B145-14 from Bunnings, is it possible to convert this to Natural Gas? Many thanks,

Ross Y

March 10, 2015 02:41 am
Hi Jack, normally Jumbucks BBQ's come with a fixed pressure regulator, not variable. You will need to buy a new reg for the first part, secondly BBQ plates come from the factory black so recoating would be expensive I suggest you re-cure it again, heat - oil - heat - clean etc and keep it oiled that way it will shouldn't rust,
hope this helps,

Ross Y

Hi, I have a Jumbuck 4 burner Griddle and it is getting too hot. I have it on the lowest settings and I have an adjustable regulator on the gas tank but I have to cook mostly on the side I don't light. Is that fixable? Also, I was wondering if there is a way to restore the griddle to all black again. It has marks where someone cleaned it and some rust looking marks. Although I have gone the vinegar route, it still is off a bit. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! It is appreciated.

Hi Ross and Barbitec,

I recently bought a "cheapie" Jumbuck 4 burner BBQ at Bunnings on LP (made by Genesis).

The burners simply don't run hot enough. Takes forever to cook and difficult to seal steaks etc.

It seems to be gas flow issue.

The flames look OK (nice blue, not yellow, not floating) but are smallish (most less than an inch). I adjusted the venturis but the original position seemed about right.

I don't think it's the regulator as it makes no difference one burner or four.

Other people on the internet seem to have the same experience with the Jumbucks - simply not enough heat.

Would changing the orifices up a bit potentially help. The Specifications list "injector" size as 0.89mm.

Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim, as replied in my email to you, the jets and heat of the BBQ relies on the thickness of the steel of the frame. They are inexpensive Barbeques so the jets are a set size which are designed so as to not overheat and warp the steel frame of the BBQ, you cannot change the size as the combustion would be different and it would also be contrary to the original approval given. Hope this helps, Ross Y

We are considering buying a Matador 4 burner maverick hooded bbq.
The specs advise that it can be converted to natural gas.
Is this correct?
Thanks Bob.

Hi Bob, yes it is approved for NG conversion, you will need to order the jet kit though as they are a VERY specific size. The manufacturer is SMG / SGA, Ross

Hi Leah, not sure if I relied but you can get the kit through Gasmate in Melbourne 1300 660 457 but I am not sure if you need to get your gas fitter to order it for you as they don't normally sell conversion kits to the general public..Ross Y

Do i just need to buy a natural gas regulator or do i need to have the jets replaced. Ive heard some have an adjustment screw to change flow rate between natural gas and LPG.

Ross Y

May 12, 2016 11:00 pm
Hi Dean,

IF the BBQ is approved for Natural Gas conversion then you will need a manufacturers conversion kit. Look at the compliants plate on the BBQ and that will tell you.

The adjustment on the valves (if any) is for the low fame or simmer mode. It still needs a jet or valve change (if approved) and a change of regulator. You will also need a licensed gas fitter to do it for you…

sorry Levi, no if it only has LPG on the door compliance plate then that is the only Gas approved to run off. It cannot run on Natural Gas, that's why it doesn't get hot. Put it back to bottle..! Ross Y

I purchased a jumbuck stardom. On the box it says can be converted but inside the door it says lpg only. I purchased the gas line converter and connected. I hadn't noticed the plate till after connecting to natural gas but the BBQ didn't get very hot. Is it possible to run off natural gas?
